Course Assignments!

~ Screencasting Project:

Introduction of MLA starts in seventh grade or even younger. With that being said it is imperative that the students know how to utilize a format that is expected of them. This video shows the MLA format that is used on a high school level and it is very informative. It shows everything from headers to a "Works Cited" page and everything in between. The tutorial stress the importance of different aspects of MLA. I believe this video can be extremely beneficial to a confused high school student as it is a step-by-step tutorial for success in English class!

~Digital Video Project:

This project was a great learning opportunity as it taught me how to use a software I had never used before. During the creation of my video on mental health, I learned to use iMovie. Frankly, iMovie can be a great took to use in the classroom to teach something in a creative way. I also learned a lot more about mental health than I thought I knew and this is a really great thing considering I will be working with adolescents of all different issues and some of those issues can include mental health. I believe that it is vital for a teacher to be aware of all that is out there and how it can influence the mind of young ones. Teachers should never be ignorant of the fact that this exists and it is real.

~Instructional PowerPoint Assignment

This assignment taught me more about PowerPoint then I ever knew, or frankly cared to know. I am really glad we did this assignment because I had no idea these sort of effects can be done. In the classroom, this can be very beneficial because the assignment is interactive which is going to make it more fun to do, rather than just doing basic homework. Also, this sort of homework allows students to have fun while doing homework and go in whatever order they desire. I know I will be definitely using this teaching method in a classroom of my own. There are many things I can do in an English class and create an assignment like this one!

Website Evaluation:

I learned many things during the duration of completing this project. I learned that what may seem real, may very well not be real. The internet is becoming more and more prevalent and I now believe that it is very important we are not ignorant to the fact that we may easily be misinforming ourselves. I think it is vital for students to understand that the sources they are using are legitimate and a document such as the one I created can easily make my students realize if their source is real or not. Also if a student realizes how many lies are out there on the internet, they will get better at realizing it with more practice.

Powerpoint Game:

I learned quite a bit from this powerpoint game. I learned that it can be a great tool for teaching. It also seems to be very interactive and it would be very helpful in the classroom. I think my students would find, especially, "How to be a Millionaire" entertaining. I think using other games rather than just Jeopardy is a fun way to get students involved in their learning and make it more fun for everybody.

~Powtoons Project:

I believe there are a variety of reasons that Shakespeare is important in education. With this, I am aware that it is very difficult to understand especially during high school when students are initially being exposed to this type of literature. Shakespearian literature hold a lot of value in regards to teaching young people. It holds a lot of history, lessons and moments that are worth knowing. The point of teaching how to comprehend Shakespeare is so students can get the most of what William Shakespeare has to offer without it being too overwhelming. I think my video will offer some helpful tools to go about reading any literature that seems foreign.

~Remaining Course Readings

While doing this project I learned tons about technology that is on its way to being implemented in schools. I did not realize this is where technology is going and I found it very important as a teacher in training that I know about these. I found some of them very interesting and some that had the potential to be great in the classroom. I found many resources that I could use in a classroom of my own and I am super excited. I also realize that I have a lot to learn and I cannot wait to learn and to teach in a different way than I was taught. I am excited to see where technology takes me and my career and the students involved!

~Inspiration Project:

I found this project very informative and a great learning opportunity. I did not know this piece of technology existed and I am very happy to have been introduced to it. I believe it can be very beneficial to a classroom. My focus area is in English and I think it can be really great because there is a lot of comparing and contrasting and a chart that shows those connections can be vital. Also, this tool can be very helpful for students with learning disabilities and especially the ones that are visual learners. Overall, I will definitely consider using this in my future classroom for an aid in learning.

Graphics!

This project opened my eyes as to how many free resources are out there for me to use in the classroom! I especially like Rubistar because as an English teacher I will be creating a lot of rubrics and this can make it easy! Also, there is so much out there to enhance the learning process and make it a little less boring for my students. Also, these resources are accessible to my students so they can learn how to use them too! I would have them use it in projects as it can be a great tool and make the project more fun while learning!

WebQuest:

I found this WebQuest assignment very educating and I am glad I had the opportunity to learn about it. I realized that this tool can be a great one for the classroom because it can be a fun interactive activity for students. This activity can also ensure that the students learn since they are acquiring the information on their own or with partners.  When I did WebQuests in high school I found them very entertaining and I find it quite interesting that I know how to make one now. Also, a WebQuest can call for group learning which is always a great thing since that is what a job is going to be when the student finishes high school. I believe that outside situations should be in the classroom as much as possible and this does that.
